Prayer is in a few minutes. Here is enough.
You do not need to know the Arabic yet. You do not need to have finished anything. Do this, and you have prayed.
The short version
- 1Stand facing the qiblah, and begin.
- 2Every time you hear Allāhu akbar, move into the next position.
- 3In each position, say SubḥānAllāh, quietly, a few times.
- 4Follow the person in front of you. Stay with them.
- 5When they finish, you have finished.
That is genuinely acceptable while you are learning. Your teachers taught it this way long before there was an app.
And then, when there is no rush
This is the ladder. Most people spend a few weeks on each rung, and that is the normal pace, not a slow one.
- L1Follow the movements
You watch, you move when the imam moves. Nothing to say yet.
- L2SubḥānAllāh at each step
When you hear Allāhu akbar, you move and you say SubḥānAllāh.
- L3Al-Fātiḥah in qiyāma teacher confirms first
Requires a teacher to confirm your postures first.
- L4The words of rukū‘ and sujūd
Added one at a time.
- L5Tashahhud
Sitting, and what is said in it.
- L6A short surah after Al-Fātiḥah
Your first addition of your own choosing.
- L7A complete rak‘ah, unaided
Start to finish, without prompts.
Why a teacher, at L3? Because this is the whole reason the platform exists. Reading the words off a screen tells you nothing about whether they are coming out right. One person listens once, and then you move on.
